Kanha National Park Accommodations, Activities and Safari Reservations

Kanha National Park is a famous tiger-reserve-national park situated in the Balaghat and Mandla districts of India’s Madhya Pradesh state. The park came to be last June 1955. Prior to this, it comprised of 2 sanctuaries – the Banjar sanctuary which is about 300 square kilometers and the Hallon sanctuary which is about 250 square kilometers. However, at current, is it already about 940 square kilometers in area. In fact, the Kanha Tiger Reserve stretches even to a 1009 square kilometer buffer zone; plus, the 110 square kilometers of its neighbor – Phen Sanctuary. Species you can find here include the Indian wild dog, Barasingha, sloth bear, Royal Bengal Tiger and even leopards.

At current, the park houses the world’s biggest number of tigers. This made the city one of the world’s best tourist destinations. Fascinating sites to see include tigers in their natural habitat; after all, this is the valley where these tigers were actually found.

National Park System Visitors Up by 180%

According to the National Park Service about 272 million people visited the country’s 391 parks in 2006, the last year for which complete statistics are available. Also, according to the Park Service, the number of current visitors appears to be sharply on the rise. Tour operators agree. One outfit that books tours to these prime recreational areas says that they have seen a booking increase of 180% in the past year alone.

It is not hard to understand why. You can get the most spectacular natural views in the country at the national parks, from coral reefs to towering mountains, it’s all there. These wilderness preserves are uniquely an American invention. Perhaps the most famous, Yellowstone National Park, was established by an act signed by President U. S. Grant in 1872. The United States was the first country to officially designate an immense area of its natural wilderness as a national preserve for all the succeeding generations yet to come.

A Visit to Madhav National Park

Madhav National Park is located in the district of Shivpuri in the Gwalior region at Madhya Pradesh in India. It was put up in 1959 with a total area of 156 sq. km. This attraction is open all throughout the year. The park imposes the protection from which the area gets pleasure when it is the clandestine shooting reserve in the Maharaja of Gwalior.

The Park was Gwalior’s hunting and amusement resort in earlier times. The Jhansi-Shivpuri Road and the Agra-Bombay road flank the Madhav National Park. A drive throughout the park having a glimpse of the animals is a very invigorating experience. The plant life in this recreational area is mixed with arid deciduous woodland up to some extent of poor quality. The most excellent time to visit Madhav National Park is from October to February.

Corbett National Park – Beauty of Wilderness

The sheer natural splendour of Corbett National Park sets it apart from most of the other reserve forests and wildlife sanctuaries, not only in India but across the world. Situated in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, it is spread over an area of about 1300 square kms. of which about 500 square kms. comprise the core area and the rest is the buffer zone. Hills, river belts, wide expanse of grasslands, marshes and a number of lakes of different sizes traverse the picturesque landscape. The elevation ranging from 1300ft to 4000ft the forest cover is predominantly deciduous with sal, haldu, pipal, rohini and mango trees spreading over almost 75% of the park area. Incidentally, the Park happens to be an eco-tourism destination with almost 488 species of plants and a very interesting variety of fauna.

Established in 1936, Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India. Called the Hailey National Park originally, the Park was renamed in 1957 in honour of Jim Corbett, the legendary hunter-turned-naturalist to recognise his contributions in setting it up. The Project Tiger was launched in Corbett National Park in 1973 as a conservation programme for saving the Indian Tiger population and this park was one of the first such tiger reserves in the country.
